At the start of the term, fifteen Year 12 students from St Paul’s Way Secondary School had the exciting opportunity to visit the Financial Times headquarters in Central London for an exclusive insight day.
The visit offered students a fascinating look behind the scenes at one of the world’s leading business publications, giving them a deeper understanding of the FT’s role in both the UK media and global finance sectors.
The day began with an introduction to the history and operations of the Financial Times, followed by two interactive quizzes which our St Paul’s Way students proudly won.
They successfully guessed both the average salary of a paying FT subscriber and the cost of a one-page print advert, showcasing their sharp thinking and teamwork.
Throughout the visit, students explored a range of career pathways within journalism and economics, discovering how creativity, analytical thinking, and communication skills come together in these industries.
FT staff shared personal career stories, highlighting the diverse routes young people can take into the sector.
The day concluded with a financial literacy workshop, where students learned practical skills for managing money, from budgeting and saving to understanding investments. This session encouraged students to think critically about their financial futures and make informed decisions.
Overall, it was a fantastic and inspiring experience, broadening horizons and motivating students to consider future careers in media, business, and finance.
This trip perfectly reflects one of our school values, Aspiration, encouraging students to aim high, explore ambitious career paths, and see themselves as future leaders in professional industries.
The experience showed that with curiosity, effort, and confidence, every opportunity is within reach.
