Students from SPW6 recently took part in an inspiring visit to the Queen Mary University of London Dental Hospital, where our Year 12 learners with an interest in healthcare explored careers in oral health. The visit formed part of SPW wider commitment to broadening horizons and connecting classroom learning with professional environments.

During the visit, students met practising dentists, dental nurses, hygienists and dental technicians who shared insights into their roles and career journeys. Through open discussion and guided sessions, students gained a clearer understanding of both clinical and technical pathways in dentistry. They were able to ask thoughtful questions and reflect on the qualifications, skills and personal qualities needed to succeed in the field.

This exposure helped them appreciate the diversity of opportunities available within the field of oral healthcare.

A key highlight was the opportunity to participate in practical activities. Students created their own retainer moulds and practised the application of fluoride varnish, mirroring procedures used by professionals in community clinics across East London. These experiences deepened their understanding of professional practice and encouraged them to consider a wide range of future possibilities within healthcare.

Throughout the day our young learners represented the Trust with maturity, curiosity and enthusiasm. Their engagement demonstrated a genuine commitment to learning and personal development, and we are proud to support them as they consider their next steps.
