Recently, we celebrated World Book Day with a range of exciting activities designed to inspire a love of reading across all year groups. The day began with a special assembly where children gathered to hear stories, share their favourite books and enjoy performances by teachers. The assembly set a joyful tone for the day, highlighting the importance of reading and the many adventures books can offer.

Year 1 pupils took part in focused reading activities, exploring new stories and discussing characters and plots with their classmates. The sessions encouraged children to think critically about the books they read and to express their ideas confidently.

Meanwhile, Nursery pupils joined Year 6 buddies for paired reading sessions. This buddy system proved to be an exciting and enriching experience for both younger and older children, as it promoted teamwork, communication and a sense of responsibility while sharing the joy of reading.

Reception classes also enjoyed a range of storytelling activities, using books to inspire creative play, discussion and imagination. Across the school, children were encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters, bringing stories to life and creating a colourful and engaging environment.

World Book Day at St Paul’s Primary demonstrated how reading can be fun, interactive and community focused. By celebrating stories and encouraging children to engage with books in different ways, the school fostered curiosity, imagination and a lifelong interest in reading.

The activities also reflect our school’s value of aspiration. By inspiring children to explore new books, challenge themselves to read more widely and share their ideas with others, the school encourages every pupil to aim high, develop their potential and embrace learning with enthusiasm.
