This term, we took our Year 5 students to the V&A Museum, where they explored the gallery and discovered the remarkable art and design of the Islamic Middle East.

The exhibit was part of the Jameel Gallery of Islamic Art, where they learned about a rich cultural history spanning over 1,200 years.

At the centre of the room, our students had the unique opportunity to view the famed Ardabil Carpet, the oldest dated carpet in the world.

Its creation date and the name of its inscriber, Maqsud Kashani, are woven directly into the design.

The Jameel Gallery not only beautifully showcases this carpet but also places it at the heart of Islamic art traditions.

The exhibit spans regions from Spain and North Africa to the Middle East and Central Asia, offering our students a rich, first-hand learning experience.

School visits like these are essential for enhancing a child’s academic journey. They provide a touch of fun while extending learning beyond the classroom.
