Our reception class visited the London Docklands Museum and got a hands-on experience learning about different methods of transportation.

Parent volunteers enhanced the experience entirely, by supporting the students they truly showed the benefits of Community.

Lila, a parent, said, “Trips like this are very beneficial for the school and would love to see more.”

At first, the students had been learning about transportation in class, this trip was an extension of this lesson. They were able to gain a real-world connection to new fascinating topics of travel.

To top it off, travelling by bus allowed them to experience their learning come to life. Upon arrival, they were able to witness a real-life boat and the Docklands Light Railway.

The museum itself met the students with an abundance of new activities!

From builder's hats and wheelbarrows filled with blocks to pulling ropes attached to sacks and learning about boats through a water play area, they were truly within a world of paradise.

Arlo, a reception student, said, “I’ve been here before, the best bit is playing with the blocks.”

The museum had toy cranes with magnets, teaching the students the process of offloading and on-loading cargo onto ships, as well as a soft play area shaped like a boat!

Reception student, Siyana, said, “The best part of the trip was the slide, and I liked that my mom got to come too.”

There also were sensory activities, where the students could touch, smell and hear different objects relating to transportation from both the present day and the past.

Ms Chowdhury, said, “Enrichment trips like this are a great way to get students out of their school environment and see the physical transports like a boat which they may have not seen before.”

An early learning goal at St Paul’s Way is to be confident in different social situations and build the confidence to speak with peers in new environments.

It supports the meaning behind one of our top-valued school mascots, Community Casey, representing the importance of learning together as a collective.
