Celebrating Our Music Scholarship Programme

We’re proud to celebrate the continued success of our longstanding music scholarship programme, now entering its second decade. Its core purpose is to provide access to high level music education for talented and committed students whatever their background or prior opportunity.

As the only programme of its kind in a Tower Hamlets secondary school, it gives our young people a unique chance to broaden their cultural capital and develop their artistic skills in a supportive and ambitious environment.

Our recent information session was led by Zoe Miara, Head of Music, and Will Maynard, Director of Performing Arts. They delivered an in depth presentation to current scholars, their families and prospective students hoping to join us in September.

The session explored what it means to be a music scholar at each stage of the school journey, highlighting the increasing levels of challenge, expectation and opportunity as students move through the school.

Families were also introduced to a range of new partnerships between the school and professional creative organisations. These collaborations will provide masterclasses, performance experiences and access to specialist expertise which will further enrich the programme.

Zoe and Will outlined plans to strengthen the KS3 tutor group strand to maximise its impact and create even more opportunities for our younger musicians. Key dates for performances and events were also shared so families can stay engaged and informed.

A key part of the session focused on how students can balance the exciting demands of the scholarship with their wider academic responsibilities. This open and supportive conversation contributed to a strong turnout of more than eighty parents and students from across all year groups and the feedback afterwards was extremely positive.

This event reflects our school value of Aspiration because it encourages students to aim high, pursue excellence and believe in their potential to achieve remarkable things through dedication and passion.
